Changelog
What changed in each version of It’s Been a While, newest first.
1.0.1 – 2026-10-03
Removed
- Signal is not part of the download for now. It returns in a later version. If you linked Signal with version 1.0.0, that link stops working with this version, and the Signal chats disappear from the app until Signal comes back. Your Signal account and your messages are not affected. The Mac still shows up as a linked device in Signal on your phone; you can remove it there under Settings › Linked devices. WhatsApp, iMessage and SMS work as before.
Added
- A new app icon and a new symbol in the menu bar.
- Settings › About shows the app version and the version of the WhatsApp component, lists the open-source software the app uses (Acknowledgements), and links the source code of the WhatsApp component, which is licensed under GPL-3.0. "Report a problem" opens an e-mail with the technical details filled in; it contains no names and no message content.
- On the website: a Licenses page, a clearer Privacy page, a FAQ, and this changelog.
Fixed
- Reconnect now shows its suggestions reliably after WhatsApp has finished syncing, including when new quiet chats arrive.
- System Settings › Privacy & Security now lists the app by its name instead of “ChatCopilot”.
1.0.0 – 2026-10-03
The first public version.
Added
- WhatsApp: link your Mac as an additional device by scanning a QR code. You do not need to install WhatsApp for Mac.
- iMessage and SMS: read from the Messages app on your Mac, read-only. This needs Full Disk Access. Your own tapbacks count as a reply, tapbacks from others do not, and automated messages from short codes and company names are skipped.
- Signal: link your Mac as an additional device by scanning a QR code.
- Names from your Contacts replace phone numbers, if you allow it. Messages from people who are not in your contacts and whom you have never written to are hidden by default; you can switch this off.
- Four areas in the sidebar: New (messages that arrived recently), Waiting (chats you have not answered), Reconnect (people you have not been in touch with for much longer than usual) and Ignored.
- Waiting is sorted by priority: chats that need a reply, such as a question or a plan with a person you know, come before chats that can wait. You can also sort by oldest first.
- Done or Ignore a chat, until its next message or permanently, with Undo. This only hides the chat in the app and changes nothing in WhatsApp or Messages.
- Focus mode: your waiting chats one card at a time.
- Reply drafts with Apple Intelligence, written on your Mac in your tone and language. Nothing is drafted until you ask, and you can make a draft shorter, warmer or more casual. You edit the text and copy it or open the chat in WhatsApp or Messages. The app never sends anything itself.
- Menu bar icon with the number of waiting chats and a short list, without message texts.
- A daily reminder that tells you how many chats are waiting, never who or what. You can pause it for an hour or turn it off.
- English and German.
Privacy
- Everything runs on your Mac. There is no account and no server of ours, and nothing is tracked.
- The app does not send read receipts, typing indicators or online status.
- The app only sends a message when you do it yourself in WhatsApp or Messages.
